However, another environmental issue holds a particularly special place: animal protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of volunteers in Edinburgh dedicate themselves to ensuring people recognise the value, importance, and vulnerability of the animal kingdom. Achieving this requires developing diverse initiatives, projects, courses, and dedicated events. But Avery was fortunate; she&#8217;d always loved animals and had a keen interest in their protection. So, when she learned that Edinburgh Zoo was collaborating with The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, and that the latter was expanding its volunteer team, she immediately decided to go for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avery says it felt like a wonderful opportunity to find a new purpose in life and, of course, connect more deeply with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Shift_in_Perspective_Through_Volunteering\"><\/span>A Shift in Perspective Through Volunteering<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As experience shows, volunteer work quickly leaves its mark on a person&#8217;s mindset and outlook. She also notes that she became more self-assured, which significantly altered her self-perception. Ultimately, she found work in a field that allowed her to leave behind past problems and discomforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working as a summer school tutor for The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Avery was able to re-evaluate many things.
