Funeral tributes are made as well — sprays, wreaths and hand-tied sheaves — with at least four days’ notice requested and the funeral director’s details needed when the order is placed.

Orders placed before 11am are delivered that same afternoon, and anything later goes out the following afternoon unless another date is chosen. Local delivery runs across EH1 to EH22 seven days a week, which is unusual in a city where most florists stop after Saturday. For postcodes beyond that the shop asks you to phone before ordering.

If nobody is home, the flowers are left somewhere secure or with a neighbour, and returning them to the shop for collection is treated as the last resort. Collection is also the fastest route for a same-day gift, though the florists finish half an hour before the shop closes, so bespoke work needs agreeing earlier in the day.

Morningside sits on the south side of the city, a straightforward bus ride from the centre, and the shop is part of a long parade of independent traders, cafés and delis.
